FAQS
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the survey?
The State of Residential Construction Industry (SORCI) survey is the largest survey for residential builders. The survey is commissioned by the Association of Professional Builders (APB) for the purposes of gathering data from residential builders across the United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand to present industry insights and emerging trends in the annual SORCI Report.
What is the Association of Professional Builders (APB)?
APB is a coaching company that provides business training and resources exclusively for residential home building companies. In particular, the owners and directors of small and medium-sized construction companies looking to systemise their businesses, grow their margins and/or their sales revenue and transform this industry.
When are the results published?
The findings from this survey will be published in the SORCI annual report released early next year.
Who is this survey for?
This survey is specifically tailored to custom home builders and remodelers/renovations specialists.
What do I get for participating?
By completing the survey, you’ll receive a free PDF copy of the 2025 Annual Report, a complimentary one-on-one call with an industry expert, early access to next year’s report, and the opportunity to submit photos of your work to be considered for the cover or a feature inside the report.
Do I have to complete the survey to enter the feature selection?
Yes. Only completed surveys are eligible for the cover and runner‑up placements.
Do I need to submit photos to complete the survey?
No. You can complete the survey without submitting photos. Submitting up to three images simply gives you the chance to be featured in the 2026 report.
If my build is featured, how will the image be used?
Images may appear in the SORCI PDF, hardcopy and web pages where the report is promoted. We will credit your company name when featured.
What photo specs should I submit?
High‑resolution JPG or PNG, ideally 3000 px on the long edge or larger with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Completed homes only, interior or exterior. Please ensure you own the rights to the images or have written permission to use them.
What is the retail value of the prize?
The prize is the opportunity to have your build featured on the cover of the annual SORCI Report. This is a recognition and exposure opportunity only and has no retail or resale value.
Who can enter the competition?
Entry is open to residential building companies located in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States (excluding residents of New York, Florida, Arizona, and Rhode Island). Entrants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees, contractors, or affiliates of APB, as well as their immediate family members, are not eligible to enter.
How will the winner be chosen?
The winning photo(s) will be judged by the APB team based on three equal factors:

• The quality of the photography
• The quality and design of the build shown in the image
• How well the photo fits with the overall design of the report

Each factor carries equal weight, and the judges’ decision is final. The winner will be notified directly via email using the address provided at the time of entry.
How long does the survey take?
Approximately 15 minutes.
